“YOU are incredibly generous!”… These were the words from the staff at Abraham Kriel. But, the expressions of joy on the faces of these children were beyond words.
It was such a beautiful day at Abraham Kriel when I delivered the 60 gifts received from the generous souls at River Bushwillow. But the nice summer weather when arriving at the home could not prepare me for what was to come. Little did I know how the simple task of gathering gifts and delivering them could be such an emotional experience. After all, the simple gesture is so familiar to us.
I simply parked the car, opened the trunk and start blasting some Christmas tunes… Setting the mood for a joyous occasion whilst a sea of eyes was watching my every move. And then it happened… In an instant, the entire area was buzzing with laughter and joy. The air started to fill with the most joyous sing-along I have ever experienced. Around me, a team of kids started to sing at the top of their lungs and show off their best dance moves.
Then it was time for presents… Nothing in this world could describe the sincerity of thanks each kid had when they received a gift. Not even the size or the weight mattered. It was pure, innocent gratitude. I was overwhelmed and truly grateful that a community like River Bushwillow could open their hearts and spread the joy of Christmas and that I could have been a part of that.
I would like to thank each and every resident who took part in our Carols by Candlelight event and who helped spread joy even further into our community by quoting a young little girl in a faint whispering voice… “God bless you Santa!”
